Wrinkles result from a combination of several factors, one major factor being sun damage. Wrinkles don’t occur just because of cellular changes, collagen depletion, or damage caused by free radicals. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract causing your skin to furrow crease and fold. When you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet on the outsides of your eyes. Each crease and fold worsens over time making prevention your number one priority.
How it Works
BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface in the muscles and decreases the activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet to form over time. Putting a stop to this muscle not only allows a temporary reduction in the creases and wrinkles but it also allows your skin to heal and rejuvenate while the muscle is at rest. Botox cosmetic is used to eliminate frown lines between the brows, flatten deep forehead wrinkles, and soften eye wrinkles (crow’s feet).
The product works by relaxing the muscles of the face, which helps to produce a smooth and relaxed appearance. The goal of Botox treatment is not to create a frozen look without expression; the goal is to soften lines with preservation of a beautiful and natural appearance. Treatment with Botox cosmetic does not mean you will loose the ability to be expressive.The amount of expression remaining depends on the individual clients goal.
The Procedure
The treatment is usually done in about 15 minutes. Some patients report that being injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic feels like a small pinch. If you are concerned about discomfort, we can apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment. This extra step will add an additional ten minutes to your treatment time.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment that should be performed by highly trained and qualified staff such as the staff at Delle Chiaie Cosmetic Medicine located in NH. Surface only uses Nurse Practitioners and Nurses who are licensed and certified in the procedure. It is important to talk to your provider about the results you want from the treatment as well as any precautions and risks from the procedure. You will usually begin to notice results within 48-72 hours with the maximum effect visible at 14 days!
