WHAT IS SEBORRHEIC KERATOSIS?

Seborrheic keratosis is one of the most common noncancerous skin growths. This skin condition usually appears as brown, light tan or black growths on the face, shoulders, back or chest. These growths are slightly elevated and have a waxy, scaly appearance. Although seborrheic keratoses (SKs) can look like skin cancer, they do not become cancerous and aren’t thought to be related to excessive sun exposure. Seborrheic keratoses are mostly painless and only require treatment for cosmetic reasons. If you’d like to remove your SKs, there are effective, non-surgical treatment options available at Delle Chiaie Cosmetic Medicine.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES?

The exact cause of seborrheic keratosis isn’t known, but you’re generally more likely to develop SKs if you’re over the age of 50, or if you have a family history of the condition. SKs are very common and will often increase in number as you age. These lesions are not contagious, however.
