What is the importance of sunscreen?
Living on the Seacoast, many people neglect to put on sunscreen since summer is only three months long. Everyone loves a good tan, however they don’t think of the long term effects the sun does to ones skin. The importance of sunscreen is vital to skin health and lessens the chance of skin cancer in adulthood. Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, which come in two forms-UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are associated to skin-aging, which causes fine lines, wrinkles, and sun spots. UVB rays are associated to skin-burning, or sunburns. What are HEV rays?

HEV rays, or high-energy visible light, is also referred to as blue light. HEV light is primarily from the sun, however it is also radiated from your smartphone, tablet and computer screen. With all this new technology comes research, and it has found that HEV rays are just as damaging, if not more, as UVA and UVB light. The startling difference is that HEV rays penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin, promoting indirect DNA damage and wrinkle formation. It is vital for skin health to protect it from harsh elements that could potentially damage it for life. What are Infrared (IR-A) rays?
A lot of people are familiar with UVA and UVB rays, however what exactly are infrared rays and how do they affect the skin? Many people are unaware that UV light only accounts for 3% to 5% of what reaches us from the sun. A massive 55% of infrared light hits our skin on a daily basis. IR-A rays are more dangerous that we thought, as they pass into the subcutaneous layer of the skin and generate free radicals that cause collagen breakdown and accelerate skin aging.
