WHAT IS PRP HAIR RESTORATION?

PRP hair restoration is an exciting non-surgical intervention for men and women who require stimulation of hair growth to treat thinning hair.

PRP therapy has been used a medial adjunct therapy for over two decades now. It has been used effectively in many specialty fields including oral surgery, neurosurgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery and burn and wound care medicine, sports medicine and orthopedics. In the field of hair restoration it is an up and coming treatment option to help promote hair growth naturally.

Platelet rich plasma

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING TREATMENTS?

Blood is drawn in our office and spun in a centrifuge for 7 minutes. The concentrate we’ll obtain contains platelets and growth factors which assist in tissue regeneration and healing. Factors include:

  • Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF)
  • Transforming Growth Factor Beta (TGFb)
  • Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)
  • Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)
  • Fibroblast Growth Factor 2 (FGF2)
  • Insulin Like Growth Factor (IGF)

These growth factors can stimulate hair growth and reverse the miniaturization of hair follicles which is noted in both male and female thinning and hair loss.

HOW ARE THE INJECTIONS PERFORMED?

Once your own PRP has been obtained, it is injected during the same visit in 10-12 injections into the areas of thinning hair in your scalp. Before each injection with a very thin needle, we will spray the site with a topical anesthetic, resulting in a completely painless injection. You will then be free to go about any daily activities you wish, including a return to work.

HOW OFTEN ARE THE INJECTIONS PERFORMED?

We recommend injections every month for the first 4 months and then every few months for maintenance and increased growth.
