5 things you need to know about your aesthetic injector
These days cosmetic injectors are everywhere and everyone is doing injectables. With television shows such as “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” and mega hit realty tv franchise “The Real Housewives” talking openly and even showcasing their treatments of Botox or dermal fillers, it gets you excited and eager to experience these injections for yourself and their ability to turn back time. It’s no doubt these treatments are at the forefront of beauty and it seems, we have started to tap into the fountain of youth. I actually read a statistic that every year the life expectancy of humans increases by two whole years! I’m not sure if that’s true or not but I know many of us want to not look our age and look forward to buying a bottle of wine in hopes that they will ask us for our ID. Even if I don’t live to be 100, I am still planning of looking as youthful as possible for as long as possible. I want to get cosmetic injections done to help me achieve that.
So now what? Where do I start? Many of us run to google to find answers to these questions or we mention it to a friend that just so happens to be invited to a “Botox Party” and as intriguing as that may sound I can’t help but think; “this is a medical treatment being done somewhere other than a medical facility.” Does that not seem strange to anyone else? I wouldn’t think of attending a “Pap Smear Party” so why would I get Botox done in a social setting? Seems a little odd? That’s because it is! This is a common mistake made by consumers who may not have been educated on the process as of yet. So why is that women are allowing themselves to get treated medically in settings that are not appropriate. One reason is because Botox has become such a common household term. Often, people discredit its value in the medical field as they think because it just takes a few minutes to perform the procedure that it lacks any thought or education to provide the service. It takes years to be skilled enough to be able to perform the procedure quickly and efficiently. There are several other reasons why you should invest in doing your homework before letting just anyone perform your Botox or Filler treatment. Let me educate you on why it’s important to be careful in selecting where and who you choose as an injector.
How long has your provider been performing aesthetic injectables for?
Please read that question again and notice the italicized word. Many of the medical professionals who are offering Botox and dermal filler injections have been in medicine for many years and certainly know their way around a needle. However, they are new to injecting cosmetically and don’t have a very thorough understanding of the product they are injecting or every patient’s unique facial aesthetic. Some providers spend countless hours training before opening up shop and others think that a quick 8 hour day is enough to open up. The injector in the above picture is a new injector but she spent countless hours at a variety of trainings developing her skill and craft before she set up her practice. This type of dedication to the craft makes this new injector safe! The team at Surface Medical is proud to support Jenn as a new injector and congratulate her on her dedication to her education, patient safety and her willingness to seek out additional learning opportunities! We are all made differently and cosmetic injections are not a “one size fits all” type of thing, not even close. Knowing how to treat clients with these products takes years of experience and knowledge in this specific realm of medicine. I wouldn’t see a heart specialist for arthritis so why would I see a dentist for my cosmetic injections? My dentist can numb my mouth like nobodies business but I’d like to keep my ability to blink. Therefore, I’ll see someone who understands facial aesthetics and how my bones, vessels and muscles lay to my individual structure of my face. Tara at Surface Medical Esthetics has been in Medicine for nearly 20 years and has been injecting for 5 years and teaching the art of injections for 4.
Is the provider certified?
How many of you like to look at the wall of your providers office and see all those fancy certification and diplomas and feel like you are in good hands? I know I sure do! So it’s important to know what types of certifications the practitioner you select holds. Have they gone above and beyond to hone in on their skill and deliver the best and more importantly safest possible result for you? If they don’t hold any certification in what you are seeing them for you should seriously reconsider them as your inejctor. Tara at Surface Medical Esthetics has over 100 continuing educational certificates in aesthetics injectables and laser procedures.
Is your provider insured and have a practice of their own or do they have an ABSENT medical Director?
Technically speaking medical professionals don’t need to be insured, though many are. But did you know that once they perform a medical service at an outside facility that has not been deemed to be in compliance with the board of health their insurance company will drop them like hot potatoes because it is illegal in many states to practice medicine outside of a medical facility. That means if something goes wrong with your treatment YOU are the one who is held liable by allowing them to inject you at your cousin’s best friend’s Mom’s house or any other ridiculous place they could get their hands on you. It is imperative to ask your injector if they are insured and if the Medical Director is on site. Just having a medical director is not enough, they should be present to perform your initial assessment and treatment plan. Tara is the Medical Director for Surface Medical Esthetics and sees all of her patients prior to injections and laser procedures. Injections do not happen if she is out of the office. We are an approved facility by the board of health and fully licensed and insured.
Do you know what products you are being injected with?
Have your ever seen those crazy news articles about the people who has cement injected into their body because they “thought” they were seeing a real license and educated practitioner? Yeah… don’t be that person. An educated and licensed professional practitioner is going to tell you exactly what you are being injected with, how much of it you are getting injected, and why. They are going to thoroughly assess your wants and needs while giving you a natural result. The long and short of it is, you should still look like yourself only better and you shouldn’t look like science fiction experiment. Most of the time inexperienced injectors will over treat or under treat. An experienced injector will answer your questions before you even ask them. If at any point during your appointment your gut is telling you they aren’t a seasoned cosmetic injector, listen to your gut. Tara at Surface Medical Esthetics offers complimentary consults to inform and educate the clients before treatment is initiated. We are not focused on sales better yet, we are focused on educating, outcomes and helping the client make an informed decision.
